ASP & PHP in the same file!?

No it's not cos they use different programs to run the scripts.

why would you even want to? all ASP will do is make it so your page doesn't work on Unix which is what most hosts are anyway

asp will work on unix but you need a third part component like chilisoft. i remember reading somewhere about asptophp. which apparently acts like a translator to take asp to php...never seen it or used it though...

i dont care about any hosts, because i'm win 2k, and i host myself 😛 and iis comes with asp, and i installed php, and there just some things that are more simple to do with asp than php(at least to me) even though i know very little of either, oh well, i guess i'll just stick with the iframes if i want to include asp.:mad:

It's possible, just tell IIS to interpret any asp if finds one way ( ala asp engine ) and the php another.

.. so what your saying it to tell it to parse a file with a .php ext. with both asp and php?

I don't know, I don't run IIS. In apache, you'd tell it to parse any file extentions with *.php through both php and asp. The php engine would work over the php side of it, and the asp engine, the asp.

You could get really funky with this, if you wanted, by making sure one parses first ( say, the asp ) and have it write out php, to be parsed next.

You can't, however, have these two languages communicate back and forth. You can do one way communication only, sorta, and that's it.

because some things are just ezier to do with asp than php( at leat to me ) seeing as how i know very little of either asp or php. 🙁

I suggest, rather than try and write a bit of both in one file, you concentrate on choosing one of them and sticking with it. It will be far easier to debug if something goes wrong.

Then stick with PHP. I think its far easier to comprehend than VbScript (which you need to learn for ASP). Try the Visual Quickstart guide to PHP by Larry Ullman. Thats how I started off and I found it REALLY useful.
