Using Flash To Read Values From A Website

Okay I have little or no knowledge of any programming so if you're gonna try and explain it to me you'll have to put it simply. 🙂

What I want to do is have a Flash movie that when opened reads values from websites, eg users post counts.

not trying to be funny or anything but youd be better asking this on a flash forum.

php will only be able to provide the data from the web server. at least as hard a job again will be producing the flash movie to interpret it. as far as i know flash expects data files in a certain format. displaying that in flash could be quite hard as well. ( i dont know how well you know flash but this will require ActionScript I believe).

work out the flash first and work out the format the data will need to be in for Flash to understand it.

then come back and ask how to get it in that format.

Okay if I can't do it in Flash how would I go about displaying it on my website.

He never said you couldnt do it in Flash. He said that if you wanted to do it in Flash then you try somewhere else to find out how Flash outputs data from forms and then come back here and tell us how it does. Then perhaps someone can help you.

Yeah I know I was going to use Flash though because I thought it would be simpler. Now I know it's not I'm going to have it on my website.

I'd appreciate it if someone could talk me through it step-by-step.

If you go to http://www.phpbuilder.com/snippet/detail.php?type=snippet&id=34 it sort of explains how to grab headlines from news sites, this seems close to what I want but if someone could convert the text from that site into easy to understand simple steps I would be very grateful.🙂
