How can I replace text that between ~~and~~ with ""

for example:
$Text="hi how are you ~~fine thanks~~ Good bye";

output:
$Text="hi how are you Good bye";

What jmcneese said, but with preg_replace and a regexp like

"#\[del\]((?!\[del\]).)*\[/del\]#"

'cos otherwise

[del] kill this [/del] but not this [del] but do kill this [/del]

Will kill more than you want.

first code work without problem but second give me error:

This code work:

but how let it work if ~~small or ~~capital.~~~~

If the second gave an error, let's see what you wrote, 'cos it works for me.

For your second problem, I'm not gonna tell you 'cos it's easily found in the manual.

I write that with second code.

preg_replace("#[del]((?![del]).)*[/del]#","",$text);

Well, I cut-and-pasted that into a quick script:

$text='[del] kill this [/del] but not this [del] but do kill this [/del]';
echo '"'.preg_replace("#\[del\]((?!\[del\]).)*\[/del\]#","",$text).'"';

And got back

" but not this "

Exactly as advertised.

So I still don't what what the error is.

I try your code:

$text="hi ~~kill this~~ but not this ~~kill this~~ ";
$text=preg_replace("#del*[/del]#i","",$text);
Echo $text;

I put i by my self.

it's work but output is:
"hi [] but not this []"

but it must be:
"hi but not this"

so How can I repair the code

have you escaped your [ and ] characters in the regexp? [ and ] have special meanings in regexps, so if you really do want [ and ] you have to escape them with backslashes. I.e., [ and ]

That's odd, I've just noticed that they're not displayed in the code snippet. They were there; I put them in myself.

Note to the vBulletin authors. If I put backslashes into my php-delimited code I expect them to be printed!
