Maybe I don't have a coding problem. Where should php.ini go?

I have php installed at : /wwwroot/php

the php folder contains:

/wwwroot/php/bin
/wwwroot/php/include
/wwwroot/php/lib

where should my php.ini file go.

I think that's my problem. I've searched my computer and I forgot to place the php.ini file.

where is it supposed to go?

if windows then php.ini should go in c:\windows\php.ini

On my hosting service its at /usr/local/lib/php.ini.

On my Win 2k its at C:\WINNT

the output of phpinfo(); will tell you where PHP is expecting php.ini to be.
