DNS on Windows 2000 / IIS Server - Can I ....?

I want to host a site completely on my Windows 2000 (IIS Web)Server. Can I setup DNS on that so that it independently handles the www.mysitename.com request and that I don't have to buy a hosting service?😕

Are the primary/secondary DNS handled on same machine by Win2k?😕

I am new to DNS setup -- Pls pls Help!!

You can. But Microsoft hires out their DNS services to a company that runs linux ever since having their own W2K DNS servers DOSes repeatedly, so I wouldn't do it for a serious business site. But for a non profit or hobby site it should work.

What will be my cheapest/best option for an infrastructure to setting up a serious business site (php/mysql) using Windows 2000 and IIS server -- Also being able to get www.mysite.com request routed to my server??

Can you please help with probable infrastructure??

Sorry, but in my book "serious business site" and "using Windows" don't belong in the same book. I'd recommend getting and learning BSD or Linux. If you're gonna go with Windows, you'll have to ask someone else, as I haven't tried using it for anything but specialty servers for about 4 years now. Sorry I can't be much more help.

A single PII 300 with 256 Megs of ram could run everything from sendmail to dns to apache/postgresql/php and any other things you want in Unix. In Windows you'll need one machine for DNS, one for a database, one for email, one for IIS/PHP etc... if you want to handle load well.
