Moving MYSQL database

Can I move a mysql database and it's contents from my local machine to a remote host, rather than re-creating it on the remote host?

You can copy the whole directory to the remote and then start MySQL on the remote. You should stop MySQL on both machines as you're working on them, to avoid data loss/corruption.

Should work fine. IIRC, the only problem I've had is with machine names while replicating, something about the log files.
