Delete a text line in a file

Hope anyone can help me.
I have a picture gallery. I can upload a picture with text from browser. The picture goes then to a given folder an the text goes to en text file named data.txt.

So far so good.

The folder where all the pictures are is named:
/gallery/
- picture1
- picture2
- picture3
etc....

data.txt

The data.txt file list all the names of pictures including there text like this:

picture1; This text belongs to picutre1
picture2; This text belongs to picutre2
picture3; This text belongs to picutre3
etc...

The problem is when I like to delete the picture and it's text.

For now I only managed to delete the picture, but I have problem deleting it's text.

So, how do I delete the picture and at the same time delete it's filename and text from the data.txt.

Hope some of you have a solution 🙂

Deleting the picture is easy enough - just use unlink()
Deleting a line of text is harder:
Read in the entire file
Start a new temporary file
Write everything up to the line to delete out to the temporary file
Write out everything after the line to delete out to the temporary file
Check the temporary file is happy
Replace the original file with the temporary file (with the name changed to the original).
The temporary file is used to protect the original until the new one is ready for use (otherwise one request might try to read it while the other is altering it).
Now you know why databases were invented 🙂
