there anyway to set up my own www.com name, without paying some other server? (i know basically nothing about DNS..)😕 🆒

First you register it with an ICAAN certified registrar, you can't get around that. Most of them offer a web panel which gives you DNS entry and/or page forwarding. Then you can host the site wherever you want, on a free site or even on your home PC (although that isn't the most recommended option)

Nope, cant be done. If it could, why would they charge such high fees if you could do it for free?

I have several domains ranging from $9 - $15 per year, I wouldn't exactly call that a high fee. The most I have ever seen anyone charge is $35/yr. There was an advertisment driven site that would register domains for free, but they soon discovered that was a losing proposition.
