You virtually said it yourself:
eregi("[a-zøæå]+$")
I just noticed you could instead have
if(strspn($name),'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzøæåABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZØÆÅ')!=strlen($name))
for your test. But I only say that because I can.
