how to place icon in an address bar

Does anyone know how to go about placing a site specific icon into the address bar when the site is loaded? I've seen it done on a number of sites but couldn't find how to do it.

Would the same script also save the icon in the favorites if the sites was added there?

They call it "Favorites Icon".
If you use dreamweaver, you can just install the extension which can be found at macromedia.com.

Probably you can search bout that by using search engine. I think quite a number of tutorials or articles on that. 🙂

You can make icons as .bmp's and then change the file extension to .ico. Load the icon as fav.ico into your web dir. I believe the default size for icons is 36x36 pixels. Make sure your icon looks well when it is crunched down to fit in the browser's address bar.
