PHP install problem

Hi All,

I am new to PHP. I am trying to install 4.2.2 on Redhat 7.3, Apache with MySQL, GD and host of other things. I downloaded the PHP-4.2.2 from PHP and unzipped it. Then I am trying to open a sample.php file but unable to do so. Every time I am trying to open in Mozilla it open the text version of the .php file. I know it has not started yet. Can somebody guide me on how I can configure the Apache to run PHP.

Your urgent help is needed.

Which version of Apache are you using?

Did you put the two lines in the httpd.conf file?

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so

Yes,

I have some thing like this:

OK, you unzipped it
but have you compiled it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I recompiled and it asked for more like IMAP etc. But now MySQL is not running it is not able find for mysqld in /etc/rc.d/init.d folder. I found another mysqld under /usr/sbin but it seemd this is for i686. Can somebody attach mysqld for i386 in this post.

get mysql from mysql.com and compile it.
then reconfigure&recompile php with mysql
then your apache/php/mysql should work just fine
