new funtion - ftp_async_put ... undefined function???

I was writing some code today using the ftp_async_put command found in the php.net "manual" and received the following error.

I was unable to find any information on this function in any user group forum. Is this a new function? Is it only available in the most recent release? The php.net site does not indicate its age....or any of this information.

Error Received:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ftp_async_put()
