Errors in code or file structure...???

Hi there, I am trying to use a PHP script that I got, but I have got some errors no that I have got it up and running (sort of)

Has anybody got any idea what these errors are telling me???

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/blu-i.com/httpdocs/blu-i/Php/functions.php on line 132

Line 131 of the code reads:

$fp = fopen($userfilename, "w+"); // File named as User Name

Please note

$userfilename is defined as - $userfilename = "$accounts_path/$username";

Does that mean I need to have a folder in my web directory called "accounts"

Any help would be appreciated.

Check the file permissions set on the directory that you're working in. The CHMOD command should let you change these permissions.

i am a real newbie so i probably am overlooking something simple.

Hrm.. A few quick questions:

Are you running this from your own server at home?
If not, do you have telnet access to the server, or barring that, which FTP client are you using to upload?

Two options for setting CHMOD:

First - Get an FTP Client (I'd reccommend SmartFTP for Win and Transmit for Mac) and figure out how to use its CHMOD. I can't quite explain this in detail, as it varies from client to client.

Second - Use your OS's bundled ftp client. You'll need to open up a command line (Same for both Win and Mac OSX) and type "ftp bla.yourftpserver.com". Put in the username/password when asked. When it gets you to the directory, type "ls" to get a listing of files and "cd directory" to move around. You'll need to get into the directory that has the directory you need to write to (I'm guessing this is probably "/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/blu-i.com/httpdocs/blu-i/Php/users/"). Now, you'll need to type in "CHMOD 777 admin". What this sets is full read/write/execute rights for anyone.

This should solve your problem (It solved mine when I had the same one 😃). If you're worried about security risks, talk to your system administrator about CHMOD and if there's any alternatives or precautions you can take.
