Absolute month or week?

Hi, i'm new to this forum and hope this question is not too stupid!

I would like to know a way to calculate the number of weeks or months since a given date. It should go beyond years. Is there a function that can be used to get it from let say "getdate()" absolute timestamp?

There is a section that tells you how to find dates in the future, or past.

$tomorrow = mktime (0,0,0,date("m") ,date("d")+1,date("Y"));
$lastmonth = mktime (0,0,0,date("m")-1,date("d"), date("Y"));
$nextyear = mktime (0,0,0,date("m"), date("d"), date("Y")+1);

Your answer help me since i found the solution with your link. I just have to divide The number of seconds since the UNIX epoch by 604800 to get the number of weeks. I have my reference to compare any other period.
