phpMyAdmin: mysqldump / two servers

Hi-

I'm reading through the docs which are a bit heavy at this stage- I have a couple immediate needs that I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction about.

I'm running a localserver on Win2k (phpMyadmin 2.3)-

I have one database I want to move to my regular host- I used the export facility and it dumped my database information, yet it didn't ask me for the destination- I assume that put it into some kind of common file- but how do I complete the task of actually getting the table to my host ?

Each tutorial I read forgets to mention on which command line this should be done. You don't do a mysqldump where mysql> right?:rolleyes:

Also when trying to log out it asks for my username and password for localhost and tries to go back in- I don't know what that is.

Any help on these matters is most appreciated.

Hi,

you can create a dump file of your database by entering the following command at the dos-commandline:
[FONT=courier new]...\mysql\bin>mysqldump -u user -p database > path\dumpfile[/FONT]

If you want to get the database to another server, copy the generated file to the server and create a new and empy database.
Then use the command:
[FONT=courier new]...\mysql\bin>mysql -u user -p newdatabase < path\dumpfile[/FONT]

I thought the command would take care of generating the file and creating the new database- you say to do that before entering the command? And on which commandline, dos?
