thecook: although you made no attempt to help, and could only manage non relevant, negative comments, I did as suggested - and went to a perl forum, asked for help, and got the first working regexp for an email addy within minutes.
Here is how I adapted the regular expression and removed/deleted/stripped/replaced ALL occurences of email address from a string in my PHP
$stringtostrip= eregi_replace("(([[:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9_%\.]*)?[[:alnum:]]@[[:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9%\>.]*\.[[:alpha:]]{2,})", "", $stringtostrip);
probably could be improved, but it removes multiples, and both addresses like z@z.com or zzzzzz@zzzzzz.com very well
Now someone in the future who has the same question will be able to find something to try instead of empty rhetoric
