how to remove email addresses from string

Anyone know of a clean and easy way of removing email addresses from a string?

I cant find a thing!

There are plenty of scripts around that find email addresses in strings - some good, some not so good. Take one of these and it should be simple enough to turn (say) preg_match('email address',$string) into $string=preg_replace('email address','',$string);

actually I have tried a couple that I have pulled from other sources - both unsuccessful - So on the suggestion of a friend, I posted here thinking the answers would not merely be useful to me, but to others later that search for the same solutions

I have always enjoyed the open helpful PERL communities
people share code like MP3s

I had hoped the same was true here also

It's the exact same regexp as in perl. Go ask them if you like it better..

thecook: although you made no attempt to help, and could only manage non relevant, negative comments, I did as suggested - and went to a perl forum, asked for help, and got the first working regexp for an email addy within minutes.

Here is how I adapted the regular expression and removed/deleted/stripped/replaced ALL occurences of email address from a string in my PHP

$stringtostrip= eregi_replace("(([[:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9_%\.]*)?[[:alnum:]]@[[:alnum:]][-a-zA-Z0-9%\>.]*\.[[:alpha:]]{2,})", "", $stringtostrip);

probably could be improved, but it removes multiples, and both addresses like [e-mail] or [e-mail] very well

Now someone in the future who has the same question will be able to find something to try instead of empty rhetoric
