synchronizing online mysql database

please help me to connect an offline database with online database.

we had a mysql database at our office,we recently hosted our website,and now i want to completely host our local database online,and it has to synchronize with our local database asynchrounosly,
i.e when my database sever is connected through internet.

i would be interested in any solution you hear, although I am particularly interested in one for PostgreSQL. The best I can think of myself is to 1) write a script which connects to both databases instead of one and runs the same quesries or 2) have a batch job every night which does this ...

Perl scripts come to mind, as that is the method I use. I've attached a generic one that I found on the mysql site.

For postgres, there are various replication methods - check the postgres techdocs

you can connect to databases thru the internet for MySQL, surely pg lets you do the same?
