How to read all items from a multi-select ...

I'm trying to create two mutli-select lists in HTML and pass the output to a php script but I don't seem to be getting anything into the relevant array when it's passed through. Anyone got suggestions? I've included the sample code below ..

I don't know the direct answer to your question, but you might want to try to see how the information in the variable looks like by using print_r().

I guess chances are that the name of your select-box needs to be ended with [], as is the case when you wnat to store multiple values by selecting mutiple comboboxes.

Akkk dumbass alert ...

What I should have said is that I want the facility for users to select items from inBox and stick them in outBox and for outBox to be passed back to the script (I don't care what happens to inBox).

I have included the [ and ] markers in the select name and attempted(!) to make them all as selected when the user submits the form but all I get is null entries when I try to pull the entries out thru the script ...

Not exactly what you need but...

you have:

<select name="inBox" multiple size=3><option name="1">Hello mum</option><option name="2">Hello Dad</option><option name="1">Hello Brother</option></select>

change to

<select name="inBox[]" multiple size=3><option value="1">Hello mum</option><option value="2">Hello Dad</option><option value="3">Hello Brother</option></select>

Say you select
Hello Mum
Hello Brother

Then php will have $inBox available with the following array values

$inBox[0]=1
$inBox[1]=3

Hope it helps, apply that to outBox and things should work supposing your javascript leaves the entries selected.

Why are setting a new element in outBox on remove and setting a new element in inBox on add

Remove

I'm just curious; why have so many people been asking for this sort of thing (moving items in and out of select boxes and submitting the contents) lately? 😕
