email in php

Hi
I am just trying to send email confirmation to user who entered his/her email add.

Here is the script:

mail('[e-mail]', 'Subject', 'Your message here.');
?>

I have changed following things into php.ini:

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
;SMTP = localhost
SMTP = mail.drzivago.com

; For Win32 only.
;sendmail_from = [e-mail]
sendmail_from = [e-mail]

But I am getting this error:

Warning: Failed to Connect

are you running it from localhost? if so, it wont work

What version of PHP are you using. Some PHP versions want the "other headers" arguement supplied to the mail function.

Another possible problem is your mail host may not be accepting the connection from your PHP host. Try telneting to port 25 on the mail host and see if you get a connection string.

I am using Php 4.2 and yes I running apache on local machine. Is that the reason for this warning?

I tried to telnet to port 25 and it recognizes [e-mail].

Can you guys explain more?

everytime i try to test an email script on localhost, it gives me that warning.. try uploading it to the host to test it, that might work
