MySQL Telnet

Is it possible to connect to a MySQL db via telnet?.. if so how do i do it?

just telnet in to the host at port 3306(I think);

I'm new at this but I thought I read this somewhere in a doc.

I could be wrong however so don't take my word for it, just try it ...

Why not just telnet to the machine and run mysql at the prompt ?

Thats what I want to do.. but I dont know how... hod do i do that?

I just telnet in to the machine per usual (port 23)

and login with my userid and password.

then just type mysql when i get the prompt.

Of course I can only access the databases I've been granted permission to

if the database needs a different userid and password.
do this at the prompt (substitute YOURDBUSERID)
$>mysql -uYOURDBUSERID -p
