I just telnet in to the machine per usual (port 23)
and login with my userid and password.
then just type mysql when i get the prompt.
Of course I can only access the databases I've been granted permission to
if the database needs a different userid and password.
do this at the prompt (substitute YOURDBUSERID)
$>mysql -uYOURDBUSERID -p
