Looking for advice...
Our college recently contacted me and wants to hire me to do some CGI scripting. The problem is that I don't know how well things are going to work. Perhaps someone out there has some suggestions...
They have school information, dates, etc. in a Microsoft SQL database, and are extracting it to a web page via an ASP environment. They want to port it to php. The problem is that they also want to move the data to an Oracle server and the php would be running on NetWare (the only holdup is the php for NetWare). The only things they know about php is what I have told them. As many organizations today, they're trying to get as far away from Microsoft as possible.
Does Oracle work well with php? Is Oracle its own OS, or does it run on another platform like MySQL or PostgreSQL?
I have done a fairly considerable amount of work with php+mysql on linux, and have been impressed at the excellent integration of the two. The two sites I manage (newspapers) are highly dependant on php+mysql.
Does anyone have any info? I could look on the web, but I'm mainly looking for some opinions and experience with php & oracle. Is it worth the push, or is it a load of trouble?
If anyone has any comments, it would be appreciated.
Thanks
