Mail Form

Ok I have recently created a php contact form, I have got it to send the inputted information to me, but I want it to also send a html email confirmation to the form filler.

Do I simply add another mail() function to the php directly under the first that sends the mail to me? Will the variables set in the form de-activate themselves or something once the initial mail() function is carried out or are they present on any further actions in the php page once they are set?

I have something similar setup at work for callback request. We get sent teh info that the user has submitted and they get an email confirmation that the callback has been submitted. With all my mail functions I tend to write them like this

mail($to, $subject, $msg, $headers)

and if I need/want to send a response back to the user write this

mail($to2, $subject2, $msg2, $headers2)

Simple but effective 🙂

Ok, I don't quite understand how to implement that into my code, could you give me an example, because I dont have the variables with a number on the end lol. I am just learning remember!

Oh, and there was something else, I've seen on a lot of php enabled webpages that the address is like this;

http://www.domain.com/index.php?page=bleh

I think it gives a more proffessional look, just out of curiosity how is this achieved?

OK, if I have written a script that requires an email to be sent to myself and to the user that submitted the request then I'll do something like this

$to = "me@mydomain.com";
$subject = "Some Descriptive Text Here";
$headers = "From: <$user_email>";
$msg = "Start Message Here. ";
$msg .= "Keep adding to and building up the message.";

$to2 = $user_email; // taken from form that user has just submitted
$subject2 = "Your Request";
$headers2 = "From: <me@mydomain.com";
$msg = "Thanks for your mail";

mail($to, $subject, $msg, $headers);
mail($to2, $subject2, $msg2, $headers2);

This is written very basically but hopefuly you get the idea from it 🙂

So basically its what I said, I just put another mail function below the original lol.

Except that in my script I'd need to put $email in the part for where the mail needs to be sent to that it fills in the submitters email and send it to them.

Oh and you didn't answer my additional question, how do I do that page thing;

i.e; http://www.domain.com/index.php?page=bleh

anything after the file type is a variable. I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to achieve so answering your question is a little tricky.

Basically what I want to do is on my website have the index.php, which will be a splash/enter page basically (html), which will go to a page called home.php, and as I'm going to be having sections, i.e; home, which will contain pages that are included in that section, that it would be more constructive and simpler to have those pages all in 1 section, with a single include to control elements for that section.

For example, on my website, I am doing a section that will basically cover pages relating to shops, bars, clubs, pubs etc that are in my hometown, which is what my website is based on. So for example, if I wanted to look at pharaohs nightclub.

I would have in the folder places, several files;

shops.php, pubs.php, clubs.php etc

In my example, pharaohs would be like this;

http://www.domain.com/places/clubs.php?page=pharoahs

You get the idea? This is just an example of the kind of thing I would like to do.

Can you help?

well in a word, yes 🙂 how are you storing your club info, in a db or a text file?

I was going to store the information about the clubs in an external php file as variables and use include() and call on them in the pages by calling the variables from an array in the external file.

Just tell me how to do the page=whatever thing for multiple pages from a single php file please :-]
