Undefined Variable

I downloaded PHPhotoalbum and put it on my server but when I try to login in the login page opens with this error:

Notice: Undefined variable: submitted in c:\apache\htdocs\gallery\login.php on line 18

The zip file contains all the code i downloaded. How can I get rid of these errors???

[Apache 1.3.26 with PHP 4.2.2]

The application assumes that the register_globals flag is in the 'on' position and PHP versions later than 4.1.x set the register_globals flag to the 'Off' position by default.

You can do one of the following:

Edit your php.ini file and set register_globals to 'On' (consider the security issues...); or
Rewrite the application to use the values from the $POST and $GET arrays;
Find a newer, better-written application which offers the same functionality but doesn't make assumptions about the PHP environment.

I got it to work! After a week of searching I found a page the told me to turn my Register Globals to = ON. Everything just started working when I did this. Ok so I am a PHP newbie... does anybody have any light to shed on this? Is this a bad idea to have this ON?

only one question

in the php.ini file it states tat turning register_globals on could cause problems. Could someone tell me more about this? What kind of problems can occur? am i risking something? Or am i just to worried?
