bbs warning in guestbook

greetings of peace!

i have new problem regarding my bbs program.
the warnings as shown below occured in index.php

Warning: fopen("guestbook.xml","w") - Permission denied in d:\html\users\evyeauttecom\html\bbs\index.php on line 82

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in d:\html\users\evyeauttecom\html\bbs\index.php on line 84

and so on...

please help me how to fix this...

It looks like your file permissions are wrong on your guestbook.xml I'm not a unix guru but try

chmod 755 guestbook.xml

if that's not the right numbers maybe someone else can clarify.

Well, the path information provided by the error message sure looks like a windows path... So does the file specified in the error message actually exist?

Bear in mind I've not touched a Windoze machine in over a year (and frankly I don't miss that dull sensation at all)... but in UNIX-world the web server daemon (under whose auspices the PHP interpreter generally runs) typically has very limited filesystem permissions. Hence, a PHP application can only write to or append files which are either owned by the webserver daemon or granted write permissions by the file owner. I was never able to fully understand Win32 filesystem security (that is, if such features exist), but I suspect that may be a good place to start looking.

chmod 755 would have no impact unless the file guestbook.xml was owned by the user that PHP process (typically the same user as the web server daemon) runs as. (It would set guestbook.xml as readable, writeable and executable for the fileowner; readable and executable by others.)

If this were a UNIX machine, and the path specified in the error message is not a UNIX path (note the 'wrong-direction' slashes), one of a few different things could be done:

chmod 666 (All users can read from and write to the file; not too secure, but should do the job, assuming the user that the PHP interpreter runs as has at least read-access all the way down the directory heirarchy to the file).
As root, run chown PHP process username guestbook.xml (Again, assuming the user that the PHP process runs as has read access down the directory heirarchy.)
Add whatever 'person' owns the file to the user group that PHP process runs under (nogroup, on my Linux box) and then do a chown person's user name:PHP user group name guestbook.xml followed by chmod 660 guestbook.xml. This would allow both the person who owns the file and the user that the PHP process runs as read and write access to the file.
