Hi All,
Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read this. I wondered if I maybe able to enlist anyone's help here for a new project which will hopefully launch in February next year on my website, F1Newswire.net. Basically, it is a live timing system which will be used by authorised members of our site to input times and text commentary during Formula One sessions, as they happen.
This input will be done via an html form (a user will select a driver and then input the time), which will submit the entries to a mysql database, which will store the entries and then display them on an ouput page. If you are not familiar with Formula One, then there are 22 drivers in the sport (2 in each team) which compete in 7 sessions (free practice 1-4, qualifying, warm-up and the race) over the course of a Grand Prix weekend (of which there are 17 in a season). When the drivers lap a circuit, a time is registered - on the site, this time will be entered and stored, and subsequently be displayed upon the next refresh of the output page. Furthermore, tyres and the team will be displayed alongside the driver's name (done via a drivers table which is linked via individual id's to teams and tyres) - also, the gap from the lead driver will be calculated automatically by the script, and obviously the drivers will be ordered according to their laptime.
If a driver betters their time on a following lap, then a new time will be entered (overwriting the previous data in the database, and consequently the output page). To run alongside the timing script will be a commentary script, allowing authorised users to comment on the session as it develops. When submitted, a comment will be stored in the database along with the time it was published. The live timing page will only be able to be accessed after a pre-defined time (in another db table, along with details of the session) and will expire after a set time - then, the data from the live timing table will be emptied into an archive table (top times by that driver only) so it can then be accessed through a results archive section.
Essentially, that is it (!) although some further (simpler) development would be necessary to "tie it in" with the rest of the site. Basically, could I interest anyone undertaking such a project? If I may give you my position, we did already have a system almost fully developed by another script guy who was doing it for free, but he has since disappeared from contact! So, I need someone who would be willing to redevelop it for me at small or no charge. Obviously, credit will be given as part of the script, but I was wondering if you would be willing to help me out? If you need further information, I can be contacted regularly on MSN - my contact name is schueyf1fan@hotmail.com.
I look forward to hearing from you (and please see the attached html page for an idea of how the page will look. Many thanks!
Kind Regards,
Martin Jefferies
