Sending to hardcopy

Does anyone know how to code a php file to output to hardcopy that will not split html output to two different pages. I have created a website that has many graphics and background colors and have add a php file that opens another window with out these things(graphics and background colors). When someone tries to print it just prints the page which has tables and several tables are being printed on two pages. Anyone have any ideas or where i can get information on this?

Secondly, have a printer friendly button on the page and when the user clicks it open new window with the printer friendly page, use javascript to print it and to close it.
