toggling with a select box

How do I toggle with a select box to display different pieces of information?

For example, here is my select box:

echo "<option value=\"All\" selected>Show All Job Codes</option>";
echo "<option value=\"Open\">Show Open Job Codes</option>";
echo "<option value=\"Closed\">Show Closed Job Codes</option>";
echo "</select></font></b></td>";

If I select 'Show Open Job Codes' from the drop down list, how do I then execute the mysql? (I know what the query is, I just don't know how to activiate the queries when a selection is made.)

When the form is submitted with the new value in the drop down (or you add onchange="submit()" to the select) then you should be able to get the new value of the showSelection and use if statements to build that into your query.

By the way, html allows you to use single and double quotes so don't be afraid to have:

echo "<td colspan='5'><b><font face='Arial, Verdana' size='2'> <select name='showSelection'>";

which is much easier to read!

it is cause I am have that code embedded in php script that I have the \"\". php won't parse the html code if you don't specify that.

How do I submit the selected value to the server, without a submitt button, using PhP code? In other words, I select 'Show Open Job Codes' and then bang, it sends that value back to the server and produces the result on screen.

to do that, you must use javascript
