Output data to Microsoft Word

I am a novice with PHP. I need to write a page in PHP that takes data from a SQL Server database and write it to a Word file that users can download. Supposedly, I will have help with the SQL connection, but I can't figure out how to write to a word file. Could someone please give me advice or preferably a code snippet on this? Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I actually already tried to use COM objects to no avail. I think that's due to the server I'm on. Is there something that needs to be installed to allow COM objects?

I'm looking for some other way. I'm guessing there's a way to write to a file, and then I can just add some header info and save it as a *.doc file. Just not sure how to do it.

I'd look into why COM doesn't work for you. Trying to create a Word file from scratch is asking for problems.

Do you really need a Word file anyway? What about PDF or simple text?

I could start with a txt file and go from there. How do I open a file, direct the output to it, then save it with a name I supply?
