MySQL - importing dates

I am trying to import data which has a UK date format dd/mm/yyyy. Even tho the MySQL is set up for GMT/London etc and I've changed every option I can see to interpret dates in the format I want.

HOWEVER... when the text file is imported into the table it appears as yy/mm/dd (or sim)

Does anyone know how I can import UK dates correctly??

I'm am actually new to MySQL and come from a SQL Server 2000 background.

no you can't set the time in dd/mm/yy format, since mysql use only mm-dd-yyyy format

But can I import dd/mm/yyyy? as oppsed to waht you are saying which, as I understand is mm/dd/yyyy??

yes you can do that, but sql will read it as mm-dd-yyyy, its useless then, you can do nothing with it
