PHP N00b: Help With Using Apache and PHP

I'm using Apache 1.3.22, and PHP, and I tried one of the tutorial things on this site, and it seems to not work. When I try to open up one of the files, it will bring up a 'save to' dialog. When I try the other one, it will just bring up a bunch of code. How can I make it work, so it will load them correctly. I added the code to the Apache httpd file, so I'm not sure if that's it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

probably u only have to add the following line into your httpd.conf in the APACHE_ROOT/conf - dir

AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml .php .php3 .php4

just search for AddType and you'll find the right place to insert

Thanks again for the help. It works, and doesnt display the code, but it still pops up a window saying "File Download". How can I make it display it instead of downloading?? Thanks

do u have a line like this

Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"

in your apache httpd.conf?
if not just add it ;-)

In the default one or the regular one?? I haven't used Apache in a long time. Which do I use??

apache wont use the default one
its just a backup for u

hmm, did u anything with your httpd.conf before?
probably not
so u also have to insert

ScriptAlias /php/ "YOUR_PHP_INSTALL_PATH"
like
ScriptAlias /php/ "c:/dev/php/"

i think thats all about changings in httpd :-)

Under addtype, i have,

ScriptAlias /php/ "c:/php/"
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php.exe"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml .php .php3 .php4

would that all be correct??

yes, its correct
also i would write the scriptalias under addtype
there is a special top "ScriptAlias" somewhere in the config-file

but anyhow i hope it works after a apache restart...

I dont want to sound condescending since i dont know your skill set, but how are you accessing the php files?

I set up the server, and am typing in

http://127.0.0.1/DataAccess.php3

Is that the right way??

Well, the problem is fixed with not loading, but it still gives this error.

my knowledge on databases only goes up to mysql from which i have never had any errors.

Now, having never used PHP in my life, althought being very advanced in other areas... I know where the problem lies, and do not know how to fix it, because the shitty tutorial on this site does not tell how to do odbc_connect.

this is where the problem is..

$cnx = odbc_connect( 'Movies' , 'root', '' );

i have changed the first one to "movies" but do not even know, im sorry to say, what either one does.

If anyone could tell me the simple, im sure, answer to what the two things are in the quotes, i would appreciate it. I think the first one is the db name, but what is the other one??
