What do you mean by currentpage?file=page?

Hi, I saw some php sites that has a link something like

<a href="index.php?page=comics">,

is "comics" a variable or a file?

I'm a php newbie, I don't know what it means, can someone
tell me on how that link works and how to do it?
I'm starting to covert my site to php, I got huge contents
and I want to save time to code.

Help!

It can be everything. The name of a file, of a page, of a variable. It depends how is it used.

when you see that links, it means
in index.php, you have a variable with the name page, which has value comics

it is the equivalent of opening index.php and using the php...

$page=comics

you can open pages like this and have the variable determined by the url. I can't remember the function used to return this variable tho...

foo.php?page=comics is equivalent to...

$page = 'comics';

Don't forget quotes.

simple example:

// index.php //
if(isset($page))
{
 switch ($page)
 {
   case "comics":
      include("comics.php");
      break;
    default:
      include("index2.php");
      break;
  }
}else
  include("index2.php");

// to link to it //
<a href=index.php?page=comics>comics page</a>

its very basic 🙂 but it gives you an idea of how it works, theres a million things to do with that var too
