Anyone know of a good tutorial to get started with these 2?

PHP.net is one of the best resources. I don't think I've seen a better resource on any subject.

You might also looking into the PEAR extension of PHP. It will make cross development so much easier (making your application work with many databases) PEAR has a TON of features not just database features.

So I definately need to install something on apache before I can get php to talk to Postgre?

Because when I tried to acces it a second ago this was the error message I recieved.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pg_connect() in /var/www/html/postgre/accessit.php on line 4

You don't have to 'install' anything on apache (because you can't), but you do have to tell PHP that you want to use the PostgreSQL functions, and how to do that is explained in the install-section of the PHP manual.

Did you compile php with postgresql support?

if not read the INSTALL file that came with php

I did compile it with postgre support usign the following in my command --with-pgsql[=DIR]

and it installed fine...

Well the error you posted means postgres support isn't compiled into php.

It says it's undefined. That means postgresql support is missing. You probably just need to recompile php. Something must have went wrong when you did it before.

would altering the http.conf file have anythign to do with it?

It shouldn't as it seems php is working as your getting an error from php about a function.

just because php built with a --with-pgsql switch doesn't mean it worked. did you look at the config.log and see if it FOUND postgresql? If it doesn't, the configure script will go right along merrily configuring php for operation without postgresql.
