LIKE '%$query%' why case sensitive ?

Hi.. I did a search funnction.. and my select statment is like this

select x,y,z from abcd where x LIKE '%$query%'

And i wan to hightlight the search result..and i did this

$query

it's work..but the problem is why this is case sensitive. If i search for "man" it willl show every matches it found(man or Man,MAN) but it will highlight "man" words.

Samething happen when i search for "MAN" .It will show all matches including "MAN","man","Man".. but it will highlight only words "MAN".

is there anyway, it will highlight All MAN,man,Man.. mean every matches..

Which function are you using to replace the plain text result with the highlighted one... Try str_replace() it's not case sensitive. Look up the command at http://www.php.net

You could also make a regular expression to replace (rega sequence (case-insensitive) with the results enclosed with eg. ... so that :

"this is you man to night"
... would become : "this is you man to night"

I have already using the code but I am getting the same result.

When i search for "Man" it will bring all the text which has man,mankind , Man words. But it will highlight only Man.It does not highlight "man " word. 🙁

eregi_replace = non case sensitive

Why not use the faster function like str_replace? There is no real need to do a more cpu intensive command like Regular Expressions. I think that this command will do...

$text = str_replace($query." ", "<span style=\"background-color: #FFFF00\"><b>$query </b></span>", $text);
echo" $text";
