Help with News Posting script

hey everyone i'm building this news script for a band and it will be MySQL driven.

What they want is when they post something they will have an option to categorize the news clipping whether it is:

-features
-tour dates
-etc...

what i'm trying to do is when they select any of those categories a specific icon to that category will be displayed next to the news post.

i was wondering if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction.

Start by laying out the very specific goals of the app, then break it down and look for tutorials or articles, taking it a step at the time.

well here is what i have so far, the news script works like a beaut just the way they want it.

it runs off mysql and it has these columns in the database:

id, author, type, entry, date, time

the main thing that they want is that when they post a news time and select a 'type' it pulls a specific icon to that type.

so for instance say they pick the type of news is informational then once the news item is posted it shows the date, time, entry and the specific icon that matches that type. so if its type was informational then it shows an info icon.
