index.php?whatever=01 = Links problem

I'm using a really basic navigation setup where I send values like 03, 06 etc... to an index page to navigate to other pages (ie 02.php). It's works fine, and lets me manage my internal links easily - but is there a way to stop error messages displaying when I change the url? eg. If the url reads www.mysite.com/index.php?x=02 and I throw some random numbers on the end, can I get it to default back to my index page without showing a "Warning: Failed opening... blabla" error?

Or is there an even better way to use an index?=whatever setup for navigation. This is one the main reasons I wanted to learn PHP, but there is very little documentation about something so simple. I don't have any idea if I'm doing it right.

This is what I'm using now. I'm sure it's crap.

The way that code is structured will allow visitors to pass any variable they want. Explicitly appending the .php extension does give the code an element of protection, but I would take it one step further by building a control loop to explicitly include the chosen page (using the intuitively named variables in the example):

Hello, i've tried using your code but the end result is that the home.php keeps loading itself repeatedly in my content frame. I'm using a 3 frame frame-set.

        include 'jokeadult.php';

        include 'jokekid.php';
    break;
    default:
        include 'home.php';

  ?>

I'd like to catagorize jokes into different php files, but opens only in my content frame.
hopefully i can structure my site as follows:
home.php?id=workjokes
home.php?id=adultjokes

You should not include the file containing this code, but another file containing the default content (or simply print the default content).

Thanks for helping me solve the recurring loading problem!

What i did was to put a home1.php n' it automatically loads home.php

however i still cannot load my other web pages from home.php

this is my code in home.php

<p><a href=home.php?page=jokeadult.php target="_blank">adult joke page</a></p>
<p><a href="?jokekid.php" target="content">kids joke</a></p>

in both cases, using the above php code, i end up loading back to home.php..

is there any tutorial/resources u'd recommend for a newbie like me? cant find anything relevant n' swarmed by many irrelevant articles.

if this is truly your href

home.php?page=jokeadult.php

and you are using that switch you displayed... it won't work, you need your href to be

home.php?page=jokeadult

without the .php cuz your switch won't evaluate to true EVER in that circumstance

i'm now able to load both jokeadult.php n' jokekid.php, however they appear underneath the text i've indicated to PRINT. How do I make both php files load n' 'overwriting' the current page, i.e. not displaying <p>HOME PAGE CONTENTS</p>
