[Resolved] What does this mean?

I am trying to run my first php script inside of an shtml page. To bring in the data from my database.

This is what I get when I view the page:

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

If you have PHP code within a .shtml document it is not going to get processed. You need to rename it to .php or alter your web server to send .shtml to the PHP CGI.

I've never tried this, but you can probably put .shtml in the AddType (php) declaration in httpd.conf

I renamed the page .php and it worked! Excellent, thank you. To recap and make sure I got it right, any time you use php within the html coding, you must save as php.

if you have any php in the page whatsover to be parsed it must have .php extension (or any other that the server recognises to be parse, but stick to php)

I got this error now. Been looking all over for the definiton of this so that I can fix it. (I'm still learning)

Here is the error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '<'

It says line 22 and this is what is on line 22:

don't use " " within

<? ?>

tag because php uses those, instead use '
