SOUNDEX mysql Function -> Does it works well?

Hallo,

I am working about build my first personal search engine.
I have a little DB with name and surname of people.

What I want to do is to allow users to search for one or more words ...

One of my problems are grammatic errors while they type words...often they get no results because of a miss letter, a wrong letter or too much doubles....

I have found mysql SOUNDEX function, I have made some tests and is seems to work well... I would like to know if anybody here has tryied it or can tell me if it is a good way to compare typed words with database ones....

I would suggest using something like pspell/aspell on the keywords entered by the end-user (much like Google's spell check). Then supply the user with a link to the "corrected" spelling of the keywords entered, like:

Did you mean: these instead of thease?
