sorting by date AND timestamp

I want to be able to sort with a limit of 5 the most recent additions to the database. I have two fields recording a date and a timestamp respectively.

Using the following doesn't seem to want to sort correctly:

select * from tbl ORDER by Dte, Tmstmp ASC LIMIT 5;

no matter if I do asc or desc, the results are the same.

Any thoughts?

That's no different than using the same SQL I posted. =[

Looks like I might have to do some post processing, or combine the date/timestamp into a date time field.

isnt a date and timestamp field the exact same thing?

or do u just like having the same data twice?

swap and change the DESC and ASC til u get wot u want

Date field records YYYY-MM-DD

Timestamp records HH:MM:SS

Two different fields with two different data elements.

I ended up just reforming the table and dropping the timestamp for the datetime. Now it sorts fine.

Now I just need to figure out a way via php to check a field for anything BUT numbers. Guess I'll use Javascript and save myself another headache.
