what does the PHP in PHP stand for, anyway?

please help -

to png or not....

i am new to this forum, but please help:

i'm using php 4.2.3 and gdlib 2.0.1 to pass strings to output as png's. the link below doesn't even do that, as the problem is graphics related(possibly):

the problem is TRANSPARENCY!

if success, you may change the color by clicking on a swatch -
if fail, there will be grey boxes.

please check this, as i have no problems, but fear that microsoft's limited png support may well be its(my) downfall...
(or maybe i need to add data to the png or headeer?)

PHP used to stand for Personal Homepage Processor now it's People Hate Perl... or maybe ask them : http://www.php.net/manual/en/faq.general.php#faq.general.acronym

as far as PNGs are concerned I have no idea on how to help you.

For reasons known only to MS, IE doesn't support transparent PNGs - nothing you can do about except maybe stop using transparent PNGs or continually whine to MS about it 🙂

Looks good in Mozilla though.

There is a workaround to make transparent png's work in IE (from version 5.5)

you know what's sick?
it works in explorer and mozilla on a mac and looks friggin great - no jagged edges!

as soon as i went to work and tested it on a windows box i immediately recited a list of every vulgar expletive i know

you think that it would be the other way around, with a loss of features when using microshaite on a non-gates platform....

Separate teams develop IE/Win and IE/Mac - you just wait until you get into CSS styling - then you'll see the real differences - IE5/Mac works (mostly) - IE5,5.5,6/Win all suffer from a broken box model to varying degrees.

Almost makes me want to switch to mac - almost.

I always thought it was just Hypertext preprocessor and they just kinda put the pre- before the hypertext (pre-hypertext processor) PHP... I dunno... sounds fine to me.

"Recursive" means "self-referencing". An acronym is usually formed by the initials of the full title. Thus, a function that acts like the PHP name implies would be:

     echo "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor<BR>";
     PHP();
}

echo "What does PHP stand for?<BR><BR>";
PHP();

Try running that script 😉. The first "P" in PHP stands for "PHP". Do you know what the first "P" of that "PHP" stands for? It stands for "PHP". And what about that one? 🙂
