XML output

Hi,

I'm creating a feed from my site but basically creating XML on the fly using PHP and data from mySQL.

When I output the data, PHP dies when it sees the <?xml... on the first line, I persume it thinks it's an 'open php' tag.

Any ideas how I can output XML in a PHP file?

for eg:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<article>
<issue><?=$issue_title?></issue>
<title><?=$title?></title>
<body><?=$body?></body>
</article>

I ran into the same problem a few weeks ago, and solved it this way:

header("content-type: text/xml");
$str_qmark				= "?";
print "<" . $str_qmark . "xml version=\"1.0\" " . $str_qmark . ">\n";

Not sure if there is a better way or not, but at least it works!

Thank you that seems to fix the error, however, I can't seem to get the browser to recognise the output as XML, it just displays plain text.

I've put header("content-type: text/xml"); in there but it's still not recognising it.

does it have something to do with the filename extension?

(sorry if these are stupid questions).

The file extension shouldn't matter . . . maybe your server is sending out an additional content-type header. Try appending "/output.xml" to the URL when you call the script, and see if that changes the output . . .

i.e., http://www.yourserver.com/generate_xml.php?issue=12/output.xml

And . . . out of curiousity, what OS/server are you running PHP on?
