File download help !!!!!

I am trying to let a user download a file without providing a link directly to the file, thus hiding its location using PHP. Here is the code snippet :

if (strstr($HTTP_USER_AGENT,"MSIE")){
header ( "Content-Disposition: filename=$file");
}
else
{
header ( "Content-Type: application/octet-stream");
header ( "Content-Disposition: filename=$file");
}
readfile($file);

It works fine but when the Save As Dialog box pops-up the Filename is displayed as 'download' and the Extension as 'Document' rather then displaying the actual file name and an 'exe' extension. The downloaded file will always be an application i.e have an .exe extension.
How do I modify the code to show this.

header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=$file");

Hmmm... maybe a IE-Problem...

Add this:

    header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=$file");
    header("Content-Description: PHP Generated Data");

Having the same problem with .jpg...

In Netscape you can do a right-click an select "save image as..."
without any problems... IE always prompts for "unnamed.bmp"

In the Articles-Section i found out, that's a problem of the IE, only... :rolleyes:
