email encryption

I have done a shopping cart and I wanted to store the orders (with the credit card details) in the secure server just sending an email to the client asking him to log into the admin area to see the order.
Now the client doesn't like this and wants me to send an encrypted message to him and delete any sensitive data from the database.
I have been trying a couple of tutorials on this with not much luck.
Can somebody help me with this?

first off, you shouldn't store full credit card numbers on your server. store the orders, the shipping details etc, and the last 4 digits.

send the confirmation email along with all the non sensitive data like everyone else does. tried and true, and people like it.
