Newbie wants to make a journal

I am completly new to PHP, i am only going to use it becuase my friend
needs a small Journal type application to run on her Web Page. I could
do this easily in ASP however she only has the most basic web package.

I just need to be able to provide a form which people would fill in, and
their information would somehow be captured and loaded into a Table to
be shown to all visitors. Can someone offer me some advice?
