Delete unwanted space

Hi.

I am using php to process the information on my booking form. The users enter their address into the form as follows:

Address______________

---

---

Zip ________

... creating the following variables:

[$address1]
[$address2]
[$address3]
[$zip]

... which are then printed on the 'results' page like this:

$address = $address1 . ", " . $address2 . ", " . $address3 . ", " . $zip;

e.g.:

"No. 3 The Street, The Town, The State, The Zip"

BUT...

If the user does not enter, for example, a value for address 3, I am left with a space, eg:

"No. 3 The Street, The Town, , The Zip"

How can I close up the gap - i.e. when one of the 4 variables is empty I want to delete it from the list which makes up the '$address' variable.

Combine the results of form variable $address2 and $address3 into a single variable at $address2 as follows:

$address2 = (!$address3) ? $address2 : $address2."<BR>".$address3;

-or-

$address2 = (!$address3) ? $address2 : $address2.", ".$address3;

I use this all the time and it works great.

Thanks for that - it works fine!

However, rather than restrict myself in this way, I would prefer to have EVERY possible blank field covered.

A friend suggested this to 'close up the gap' in the $address variable:

$addressarr = array($address1, $address2, $address3, $postcode);
foreach ($addressarr as $key => $val)
{
if (empty($val))
unset($addressarr[$key]);
}
$address = implode(", ", $addressarr);

But with this script I get the error "parse error, unexpected T_STRING" referring to the line which begins "unset".

Can you think of how I can solve this error? I am baffled!

The section of code you've post works here - no parse error. The problem is probably further up in your code. Check your quotes, semicolons etc, these are the usual suspects (especially quotes).
