Uncompressing .tar.gz

does anyone know the php command to uncompress a .tar.gz file? if so please tell me. some examples would be great 😃

ok ive tried both commands they dont come up with any errors but they dont uncompress the file, what do i do 😕

Check that apache has permissions to write to the target directory...

ok the permissions were always 0777 still wont work, also in this code

passthru(gunzip file.tar.gz; tar -xvf file.tar)

gunzip file.tar.gz; with the colon there it give me this error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected ';' in /home/n/e/netdupe/public_html/ezpub/instal.php on line 2
so i take out the ";" and there is no error but it still doesnt work 😢 anyone got sopme suggestions

you must type " " inside

make sure the php file and the .tar.gz file are in the same directory

Put greater error_reporting() on...

if it doesn't work see if

tar -xvzf file.tar.gz

works at the command line.

Sounds like gunzip and/or tar weren't found on your system.

ok i tried this:

?>

and it comes back with work dammit so does this mean that its not working?

Is this running on a server that you own, or a hosting company's?

If this is purchased through a hosting company then the chances are that they restrict the things that you can run on their server.....

yeah i pay for it they probably do restrict. do u guys know much about gzuncompress and gzinflate functions php.net dont have very good examples

Does you PHP build have zlib compiled in?

If so, you can use the gz* functions in PHP, along with the TAR class in PEAR.
