URL Encoded query strings ignored!

I'm setting up a apache server on FreeBSD. The pages with query strings are behaving like they have none. I'm not seeing this behaviour on the development server (linux).

For example - bio.php?can_id=BS00001 is giving me a response as if it had no value for can_id!

And all my forms aren't working....

Is register_globals in php.ini set to Off or ON?
If it is set to OFF you have to use $_GET[can_id] instead of $can_id

bio.php?can_id=BS00001

<?
print "$_GET[can_id]";
?>
