variables in website stored in database

Hello All,

I have a question, i wil store the most os the variables of my website in mysql.
I hav make a table that i can reach with 2 colums, 1 fotr te variable name and 2 for the content of that variable. In have an included file where i store now the variables like $backgroundcolor=green. What i want is to store that information in the database so that when opend the website all the variables in the database are read and set for that sesion.

Does someone have the expierience with this kind of working?

What about style sheets for layout?

I know that thats is an option use for the most comment websites, here we are talking about several people that had to change things from in the website. If they want the background green it should be easy to place gree after background.

Far as i know stilesheets are only editable once and not dynamic from the website(ok i can mak severals styles in the sheet but that will not be the right option in this case.) I mention the background color, but there are approx 150 variables in the website, not only for style but alse for tekst on buttons, links,logo's etc.

Suggestion:
Use OO php meaning->
make a class for your color scheme (or what ever u wish to call it)
on login instantiate a obj with a default layout, or a user defined layout if u store info like that in your database. This object contains the class member variables and functions needed to create the website with the preferred settings.
Use sessions to maintain the values and functions if u need those, perhaps even use the magic functions sleep and wakeup so that u minimize the workload.
Depending on your php compilation the sessions can be 'saved' either db, locally or ss. At each reload of page get the session variables that is the object and processes the page accordingly.

OOP for layout is a bad thing, CSS does not even solve half you problems.

Go for templates.

I think his question was more along the lines of how he can store sessions in a database vs the usual files. There is an article on this site ( I don't have the link ) that explains exactly how you're able to store sessions in the database, but IMO storing sessions in the database is just going to cause a large amount of load on your DB... Sessions work just fine as is, but the article will explain how if you'd like.

Indeed, storing sessions in a database completely forfits the entire session function.

Sessions on disk are much faster than session in a DB, and if you can always use the database to store the data for the long-term, and copy it to a session at logon to have quicker access to the data.

Thanks all for the information, that are a lot of thinks to study over next week. I think that with this info i can solve most of my problems.
