how to get client's Operating System

hi all!

I have a problem w/ getting the right OS of the clients. I tried using $HTTP_USER_AGENT but the value is not consistent. For example, the values are browser-dependent using same client pc:

IE6.0--> Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)

Opera6.01--> Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 2000) Opera 6.01 [en]

Netscape4.73 --> Mozilla/4.73 [en] (Windows NT 5.0; U)

no. the purpose of this is have an internal survey for our product by asking some questions to our prospective clients.

All the information available to the server is that which is sent via the browser. You can look at all the variables available by looking at phpinfo() but if the browser is confused you might be stuck with it. You might take a peek and see if Java or Javascript might have some additional methods available, but they probably rely on the browser too.
