Validating previous data in a Game app

Right -

I'm coding a 'who wants to be a millionaire' type game, and I'm going to use the URL to select the questions:

http://blahblah.com/game.php?gamenum=1&qnum=14

Or something to that effect. Or maybe even as a hidden form variable when you submit the answer to the last question. Either way, I have a problem: how to I make sure that the user has actually gone through the previous questions (ie 1-13)?

Whats the best way to go about this? I do have PHP4 and I'd imagine you could do something with session variables, but I'm afraid I've no clue as to sessions and that sort of stuff.

first up, if you "post" variables the user will have a harder time cheating as they can't see the url (which they will if you "get" the form).

secondly if you use sessions you can hold alot of history on the server and not send it up to the browser, again making it hard to cheat (which they could do with hidden variables).

I just started using a script called sessionara from phpClasses.org which seems very easy to use and implement. I'm just putting it on an internal use site to start with but I'll need it to hold LOTS of info and looks like it should do that.
