php and perl

I hope this is a simple question, and doesn't make me look to dumb. But I write a lot of perl and a little php, and I was hoping to incorporate some php sessions inside my .pl's or .cgi's. I do not think this is possible, since php likes the extensions of .php or php4, but I thought I would ask some body that knows a lot more than I. If you have any suggestions, I would be very gratefull.

I believe that you can pass the PHP CGI a file and args via a command line interface and it will output the results.
